WELCOME! SunCommon is a Benefit Corporation that is fueled by the belief that everyone has the right to a healthy environment and safer world.  So we’re tearing down the barriers that have made renewable energy inaccessible with the goal of repowering our communities one home, school, and business at a time.  To this end, we make going solar easy and affordable so that all Vermonters together can take part in creating a healthier environment. 

ABOUT THE BUSINESS

SunCommon is a marriage of two Rochester, NY and Vermont-based innovative, renewable energy companies. In January 2017, the companies joined forces to become a regional solar powerhouse that boasts Vermont’s largest residential solar business (with more than 3000 Vermonters served!), a thriving commercial solar construction business, and significant market share in the fast-growing Rochester solar market that is home to more than 1 million people.

We utilize an innovative community organizing approach to marketing, via high-touch, personal interactions with home and business owners who want solar but couldn’t figure it out or didn’t think they could afford it.  We’ve done all the legwork to put together a total package that’s easy for the customer.   We picked the best equipment manufacturers, lined up the finest installers and arranged attractive financing that saves our customers real money.

PAY & BENEFITS

SunCommon provides our employees a competitive salary and strong package of benefits, including:

  • For the employee and her/his family, fully paid medical premiums as well as a significant contribution toward medical deductible expenses,
  • For the employee and a spouse or dependent, fully paid dental premiums,
  • 3 weeks paid personal leave (combined vacation and sick) for year 1; 4 weeks for year 2,
  • 10 paid holidays annually,
  • 401k company match 1:1 up to 3% of salary that the employee sets aside then 1:2 match for 4 or 5%.

Job Description

This senior leadership position will direct Residential and Light Commercial operations in Vermont and Western New York – overseeing our Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Installation, and O&M Teams. This position will drive our growing company to maintain excellence, improve processes to drive efficiencies, and lead rapid growth. 

We expect that this position will be based in our Rochester, NY office to launch the Residential growth in that area and oversee Residential and Light Commercial Ops in our VT office.  That said, if a highly qualified candidate is based in VT, there will be an expectation of frequent travel to NY to oversee the Residential program built out to scale.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Serving on the Residential and Small Commercial Leadership Team, the VP of Operations will: 

  • Assist in developing company-wide business strategy,
  • Instill focus of continuous improvement across teams, demonstrate leadership by constantly examining processes and procedures to increase staff success and ease, profit margins and customer joy,
  • Integrate Operations goals, workflows and outcomes with the other groups (Marketing & Sales, Finance & Administration) to collectively meet company objectives,
  • Lead the Operations Group by
    • creating operating plans, budgets, deliverables,
    • executing to metrics,
    • managing the Team Managers while guiding their supervision of their charges,
    • integrating the goals, workflows and outcomes of the Group’s Teams to meet company objectives,
    • Leverage industry trends and innovate to help continue SunCommon’s success as the renewable/energy market evolves. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking to add to our successful team an experienced, energetic, inspiring and superbly competent VP of Operations who brings these attributes:

  • Degree in engineering, process management or operations,
  • 10 years of increasing responsibilities in business Operations including engineering, project management, maintenance and supply chain,
  • 5 years managing teams of Operations professionals,
  • Demonstrated success in senior-level strategic business management,
  • Significant experience implementing business process improvement programs,
  • Mastery of business analytics to set goals, measure and manage – including CRM (we use Salesforce), Excel and project management software,
  • Delight in growth-phase business (with all of its joys, adventures and challenges),
  • Experience in renewable energy sector preferred but not required,
  • Successfully operates in collaborative team atmosphere – giving and taking feedback to improve your personal performance as well of that of your team and the entire business,
  • Appreciation for our company culture,
  • Demonstrated commitment to social change.
